A mans way to have fun while his wife is at a baby shower: Put all your stuff on your back, climb a steep mountain covered in snow, eat "just add water" food, don't sleep, freeze, and endure nausea, dizziness, headache, and extreme fatigue. All for a good view and to say you did it. Don't ask me to explain it, but here are a few highlights...
Bunny Flat trailhead. Mt. Shasta in the background (can't see peak). Jared Peterson, Matt Carpenter, Me, Chad Heinrich, Dave Parker. Elevation~6,000 ft. Slept here Thursday night under the stars. Dave, I wish I had those down booties!
Climbing early Saturday morning at the base of "the heart". Common guys, take it easy. We don't need another hero.
Hiding from the 40 mph winds at the top of red banks. About to climb misery hill.
Matt, me and Jared on the final stretch - Hooray, the peak is in sight!
Me, Matt, and Jared trying to breathe on the peak, 14,162 ft. All six members of team summited! Great conditions and gorgeous views. Next stop Black Bear Diner.
