My Cal Bear

It's amazing how with your oldest all the "firsts" just never get old and every milestone that kiddo reaches is so fun and exciting. It is crazy to see our little man growing and changing and maturing every day. He is just a little person now. While some days are difficult and can definitely try my patience to the very very limits, there are others when I stop and think, geez, how on earth could this little man be any cuter or any more fun?! I guess that is the nature of this age....just a constant roller coaster of emotion since they are so physically and emotionally demanding. And man am I tired by the end of the day! :) But seeing this little guy grow up and the amazingly funny and adorable things he says and does or to see him really catching on to things we've tried to teach him, or to see him be so sweet and affectionate with us or his sister is really the most rewarding thing in the world. He keeps us on our toes and he definitely keeps us laughing! Half the time when we are disciplining Dan and I have to turn around and cover our faces because it is too hard to keep a straight face at the hilarious responses he has or the faces he makes. This age really is so fun.
In January, Cal graduated from Nursery at church into the Primary and became a Sunbeam (the 3 year old class). He was SOOOO excited and has been beaming ever since I'm pretty sure. He was so incredibly proud when he got to walk into the big primary room and sit up with his class and each Sunday it never seems to get old for him. He's so excited to wear his nice clothes and can't wait to get to class after Sacrament Meeting. He insists on bringing his own Book of Mormon with him to church every week and sits with it right on his lap. I swear I can't get the kid to sit still for 2 seconds at home, but for some reason his sunbeam teachers say he's an angel for them. Hallelujah!! He also loves to sit and listen in sharing time and raise his hand about every 2 seconds to answer each question they ask. Haha. The kid is NOT shy and loves to be involved in anything social--so primary is a dream for him!
He has already given the prayer a couple times and I snuck in both times to see him. I practically teared up seeing how big, and brave, and handsome, and excited, and eager my sweet boy was and he said the cutest little prayers without any help, before sitting back down but not before flashing me a darling squinty grin and a thumbs up.
The boy definitely knows how to win over Mommy's heart!
These are pictures of Cal on his first day of Sunbeams! Such a big boy!!

And so super proud of his "Primary" sticker. :)

It really is incredible seeing him grow and learn. He is so interested in Jesus right now and loves hearing stories about him and looking at his picture right by his bed each night. Teaching him about the Gospel and seeing his innocent faith and immediate love really does teach me so much about what it means when we are asked to "be like little children".

I love you Cal and Mom and Dad are so proud of their big Sunbeam!

(I do have to tell one more quick funny story....The other night we had an FHE lesson and talked about honesty. Cal was very interested and listened quite well the whole time. Right when we were closing up Cal looked at us thoughtfully after absorbing the lesson and said, "Mom, how does the Binki fairy fly?" I could've died!! Haha. Did he know?? So Mom told a nice big lie to top off our lovely lesson on honesty. Dan and I were dying with laughter. Gotta love kids. :) )
